Eric Buffetaut
Directeur de recherche au CNRS, le paléontologue français Eric Buffetaut est un des grands spécialistes français des dinosaures et autres archosaures fossiles (crocodiliens, ptérosaures et oiseaux). Né en 1950 en Normandie, il a étudié la géologie et la paléontologie à l'Université de Paris pour rentrer au CNRS en 1976 et y demeurer. Ayant étudié les crocodiles fossiles dans le cadre de sa thèse de doctorat, il s'est rapidement orienté vers les dinosaures et figure actuellement comme un des grands spécialistes mondiaux des Spinosauridae. En effet, il a publié plus d'une dizaine d'articles sur ce groupe de dinosaures, décrivant des ossements de Spinosaurus d'Afrique du Nord (Maroc et Tunisie), de Baryonyx du Portugal et de Siamosaurus de Thaïlande, écrivant plusieurs notes sur l'alimentation des Spinosauridae et s'interrogeant sur la phylogénie et la paléogéographie de cette famille de théropodes. Eric Buffetaut continue à faire des recherches en Thaïlande où il a mit récemment au jour avec son collègue Varavudh Suteethorn du nouveau matériel de Spinosauridae qui doit encore être décrit.
